I was browsing some website last week and happen to stumble across this article on the net. It's a very interesting review on minds and personality. It's a view on how music affects our mind kinda stuffs. It says that strangers can assess another person's level of creativity, open-mindedness and extroversion (a new word for me, it means an out going personality =j) after listening to his/her top 10 favorite songs. Jason Rentfrow, psychologist from University Of Cambridge, thinks that personality clues are conveyed in the music's tempo, rhythm and lyrics. So what your music says bout you?
SMART SOUNDS. Fans of jazz, classical and other complex music, typically have above average IQ scores.(gee thanks, but I didn't even pass my SPM =j)- EASY LISTENERS. Fans of country and top 40 hits tend to be more honest and conservative compared with fans of other genres. (Aren't we all? =j)
- DRAMA QUEEN. Compared with other music fans, opera aficionados are 3 times more likely to endorse suicide as a solution to family dishonor. Dramatic personalities are drawn to opera music. (Modest emo? =j)
- PARENTAL ADVISORY. Parents often worry that music like Emenim, Cradle Of Filth or Slipknot, promotes sexual or aggressive behavior in teens. Rentfrow's work found no direct link. In fact, fans of gangster raps or heavy metals are often timid and shy than other kids. (HAHAHA. This made my previous entry on music scene a fact. At lease we underground goons are noticed by something. =j)
- BOOMTOWN. Extroverts (outgoing or hyperactive person) gravitate to music with a heavy bass line. (Sounds like someone you know? =j)
- MOTORMOUTHS. Fans of energetic music like dance and soul are more likely to blurt out their thoughts. (Ouch, =j)
- BRAIN INVASION & PEEK PERFORMANCE. Whether you can study or work efficiently while tuning to music depends on how outgoing you are. Background music can help extroverts focus, but tends to torment introverts. (yeah, I know, I'm sorry, I'll keep it down =j)
